I really like this cool battery powered pencil sharpener I bought at Amazon recently. I wasn’t sure if I wanted a battery operated pencil sharpener, or an electric pencil sharpener, but I decided to get this one because it has no cord.
Battery operated things are cool. I have a special box to keep all my batteries in and I stock up – because batteries are an important survival supply item, and because I never want to be unable to use my things because I don’t have a battery handy. I had that problem a lot when I was younger, and I guess I learned my lesson.
Why I bought this battery powered pencil sharpener
I bought this automatic battery powered pencil sharpener to sharpen my art pencils. I am trying to learn to sketch better – and have a nice set of Prismacolor pencils that came with a tiny hand-held pencil sharpener – you know the type… tiny, and not all that easy to use. Well, this awesome pencil sharpener is so easy to use. I just stick the pencil in – don’t even have to turn it on – and voila! The pencil quickly gets sharpened. So much better than before.
Right now I have nothing in the three little drawers and I’m still planning what I want to place there. Probably one drawer will be for artist’s erasers. Another will probably be for push pins. And the third? Oh, I don’t know. Paper clips? Similar to the photo?
Battery powered pencil sharpener specifications
Here are some of the specs for this battery powered pencil sharpener. It uses four (count them, yes, four) AA batteries. However – the battery consumption is low and this is an item that is infrequently used, right? So those four batteries should last a long, long time. If you’re giving this as a gift, don’t forget the batteries! A good supply of batteries will do anyone good and I could see batteries as a stocking-stuffer, or just an add-on for the gift itself.
The helical steel blade are great for heavy-duty use, including artist pencils, colored pencils, or… normal #2 pencils like most people use. There’s a automatic-stop mechanism so it won’t work if the cover is removed. That is supposed to be safer for children. However, I wondered if a child could stick their finger down the hole and be hurt that way. I would not give this to a willful or very young child.
This little pencil sharpener could be portable, but it isn’t designed to be so. It is perfect for sitting on a desk or shelf. There are other pencil sharpeners that provide variations of blunt, medium, and sharp. Here are some other choices. Remember, if it says it is “electric” you’ll end up with a cord to deal with. I really like the battery powered pencil sharpener better, but your opinion may vary.
It has been a long time since I’ve owned an automatic pencil sharpener. As I recall, my last one was electric, and I owned it long, long ago – maybe in the 1980’s. I don’t remember what happened to it. Sure was nice to have. So I’ve been wanting to get another for many years. Ridiculous, right? I should have bought one a long time ago, but other things came first. So if you know someone who uses pencils, who is sharpening them by hand, consider one of these little battery powered pencil sharpeners, and don’t forget to include batteries!
So there you have it. I am seriously enthusiastic about this pencil sharpener, enough to write and tell you about it. I’m very pleased with this purchase and am so glad it is sitting on the shelf beside my desk.
